Calvin E. Crocker, Josephine H. Crocker, W. T. Phipps, et al : Collection of Three Estate Documents - Calvin E. Crocker and Josephine H. Crocker, Sacramento, c. 1915-1920

Collection of three original estate papers relating to the will of Calvin E. Crocker and the guardianship of his wife, Josephine H. Crocker. Each of the papers are contemporary copies of the original documents. Each are fastened by brass brads in the top margin. Circa 1915-1920. Each of the documents measures about 8" x 13." The documents constitute extracts from the will of Calvin E. Crocker, the petition of W. T. Phipps, and the financial account of Phipps. They are five pages, six pages, and two pages, respectively. The last two pages of Phipps's petition are a citation asking anyone to come forward should they object to his guardianship of Josephine Crocker. Documents are clean and intact overall but are relatively fragile and have age toning, a few horizontal fold lines (perhaps original), minuscule splitting along folds (limited to margins), and slight wear to extremities. Very Good copies. This collection of estate papers shows that Josephine Crocker was judged mentally incompetent in 1904. She stayed at the State Insane Asylum in Napa and was later moved to Clarke's Sanitarium in Stockton where she may have lived for the rest of her life. In 1912, Calvin Crocker drew up a will which specified how his estate, then valued at $92,000, was to be distributed and requested how Josephine was to be cared for in the event of his death. Upon Calvin's passing in 1916, attorney W. T. Phipps was named Josephine's guardian. Josephine passed away in 1920. The documents also show that Josephine owned a house in Sacramento at 10th and F Streets and another at 29th and S Streets. One document, the petition, is signed by W. T. Phipps in black ink.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
