Original billhead printed and handwritten in black ink on light beige paper. Black-and-white illustrated header at top. Datelined October 14, 1907 in Sacramento, California. Printed by the Woodward & Tiernan Printing Company of St. Louis, Missouri. 8 1/2" x 7 3/4." Billhead is very clean and intact except for a few small wrinkles, slight age toning, a few horizontal and vertical fold lines, and slight edge wear. A Near Fine copy. An original billhead from California Winery to A. J. Luttig of Franklin, California. Luttig purchased one line item, "1 case Rock & Rye," for $4.85. The item was originally priced at $5.00, but Luttig received a 3% discount. A purple stamp at bottom, with a signed initial ("S."), confirms that this bill was paid. The printed header reads, "California Winery, Growers, Distillers and Bottlers of Cordova the Wine of Quality; 21st Street, Between R and S Streets. 'The Oldest Winery in the State'; Established 1852." The proprietors are listed as "Cordova Vineyards, situated on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains." The company Directors are listed as Fred K. Cox (company President and President of the California State Bank), Fred W. Kiesel (company Vice President and General Manager and Cashier of the California State Bank), Geo. W. Peltier (company Secretary and Manager of the California State Bank), W. E. Gerber (Vice President of the California State Bank), Jos. Steffens (Director of the California State Bank), C. W. Clarke (Director of the California State Bank), F. J. Kiesel ("Capitalist, Ogden, Utah"), and W. A. Clark (U.S. Senator, Butte, Montana). A small printed notation at the bottom lists places and events in which California Winery's wines and brandies won gold medals. California Winery won gold medals at the Paris Exposition; Chicago World's Fair; Lyon, France; Midwinter Fair, San Francisco; Atlanta Exposition; Buffalo Pan-American; Dublin; Antwerp; Brussels; Omaha; and "Twelve California State Expositions.".
