Perine, after the photograph by Sarony). Also noteworthy for the facsimile reproductions of manuscript matter by John Quincy Adams, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Julia Ward Howe, Edgar Allan Poe, Alfred Lord Tennyson, John Greenleaf Whittier, and others; plus the uncredited (publisher's?) preface and appended "Advertisement to the Twentieth Edition (Revised)". Index of authors and first lines (latter at rear). Bound in 3/4 dark brown morocco over dark green cloth, gilt-stamped and decorated spine with partly raised bands, covers double-ruled in gilt and gilt-titled, maroon cockerell endpapers, a.e.g., dark red silk bookmarker.
