Top edges lightly toned from slight dust-soiling but without foxing/spotting, fore-edges slightly brighter with merest hint of foxing,if any; contents bright, tight,exceptionally clean - text body virtually foxing-free,solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners,appears unread apart from my own collation.Bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered,publisher's original,plain black cloth boards/ covers with bright,crisp, stamped white ink letters and repeated red artwork design to spine/backstrip,and faint off-set shadowing to respective verso+recto of free endpapers from dw/dj's respective inner flaps,both hinges solid and sound without any tears,splits or cracking.UK,slim 12mo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,7- 206pp [paginated] includes the two stories with 8 and 3 chapters respectively,plus [unpaginated] half-title with story history/precis,title page and individual story's title separator pages. First UK and first English language edition of this collection of two suspense novellas - The Evil Eye and The Sleeping Beauty. French authors credited with having established an authentically French sub-genre of crime fiction with its emphasis on mounting psychological suspense and ingenious plotting. This successful collaboration produced 43 novels,100 short stories and 4 plays.Their works were adapted into numerous films,but most notably Les Diaboliques (1955), directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot,and Vertigo (1958),directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Whilst not a huge output,nevertheless,a highly sought after and collected authored-genre of crime fiction in their typical style and format and will be an important and welcome addition to the Boileau & Narcejac canon.With only a handful of English translations and with most out-of-print,all English 1st edns can be regarded as uncommon,especially in collectable states,some being rare and valued/priced accordingly.
