The partial letter is datelined October 24, 1917 in France. 7" x 10." Eight pages total (1917 letter: three pages; 1918 letter: two pages; 1919 letter: one page; application: two pages). Each of letters and the application are very clean and intact except for age toning, fold lines (likely original), a few wrinkles, and the occasional small stain. Each of the documents and the entire collection are Near Fine. A collection of letters by an American soldier, likely an officer, identified only by his signature, "Bob." In one letter, it is revealed that he is from Boston. In his 1918 letter, Bob writes to his wife, "Cath," about presents he has bought for her and their two children, Robert and Dods (their daughter), while stationed abroad. For Robert, he bought a transformable battleship that can be disassembled and reassembled into "a cruiser, a [torpedo] boat, or any kind of war ship" and four German soldier books. For Cath, Bob purchased a "small but pretty sort of oil painting of a little boy and a little girl like Dods" and a variety of lace, embroidery, and other dry goods. For Dods, he bought a doll. Bob also writes about other items he has purchased such as books, postcards, photographs of the German town where he is currently stationed, and other "war souvenirs." In his 1919 letter, Bob writes to Cath about his travel plans to get back to Paris and eventually to the United States. In the partial letter dated 1917, Bob writes to Cath about being in Paris and how many grieving widows he has seen in the city. Much of this letter is about how much he misses her and loves her. One of the last subjects Bob writes about in this letter is arranging finances for Cath, Robert, and Dods. Unfilled Form R-535, "Application for Supplemental and Occupational Mileage Ration," also included (one leaf printed front and back).. Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Near Fine (Near Fine).
