Any dw/dj would have been of substandard quality and fragility and be prone to subsequent disintegration and usually discarded,or be reverse printed - possibly coming from an entirely different book/title.] NFINE/POOR.A neat, ink handwritten familial gift presentation inscrptn and date (Xmas 1947) and a further owner's inscrptn: name+address to ffe and no price-clip (5s. net) to dw/dj.Wrap-around matt,colour pictorial artwork illustrated dw/dj with red lettering to front cover and black+red lettering to spine/backstrip; with negligible shelf- wear and heavy creasing with chipping, nicks and closed tears to edges and corners.Aged sellotape repairs/strengthening internally,to both inner flaps' folds/creases and head of spine and top,rear edge of dw/dj,which in turn has bled through leaving a concomitant 'ghosting' indication externally.An approx 1/5" x 1" chunk/tear loss to top,front corner of dw/dj and some minor loss to front,lower corner too.Foot of spine/backstrip of dw/dj heavily creased with an approx 1.5" closed tear at rear gutter's edge and small loss at foot,minimally affecting black lettering.Rear panel of dw/dj also heavily creased and wrinkled to it's body. 97% of dw/dj complete and only described and added for completeness.Top edges minimally dust-soiled and with lightest of any ageing and a few blemishes,fore-edges with hint of ageing - very considerably much less than is usual/normal or encountered - so bright and clean with minimal foxing/spotting; contents bright,tight,clean, solid and sound - near pristine - text body bright,generally clean with some odd blemishes, no foxing and no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips,appears unread - apart from my own collation.Bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered,publisher's original pale grey cloth bds with bright,crisp,blocked brown ink printed letters and magnifying glass+illustrated thumbprint to front cover/board and similar lettering to spine/backstrip and generally clean eps apart from some slight off-set foxing from internal backstrip and inscrptn.Rear free endpaper missing? There are a great many clever burglaries going on,and it is suspected that member of the gang have their meeting place somewhere in Peterswood,where the Finder-Outers live.So the children,of course,determine to solve the mystery,and they tumble into other mysteries too.Who is the old man on the seat? Who is Number Three? Where is the missing necklace? Fatty of course,enjoys himself in various disguises,and poor Mr Goon,the policeman,is always being taken in.But Old Clear-Orf,as the children call him,defeats Fatty one strange night at the Waxworks Hall,and rejoices! It all ends up most amusingly and unexpectedly,and,as usual,there are thrills and laughs in every chapter.
