A highly collected and prolific children's book author/illustrator,and an unusual item/ephemera in Blyton's bold style and will be an important and welcome addition to the canon.Wartime issues /editions are notoriously and particularly scarce and as such,are highly sought after. The 2nd of 15 'Mystery' stories from this series.An adventure of the Five Find- Outers and dog.Bets,Pip,Daisy,Larry and Fatty with his black Scottie dog Buster,solve another mystery. Lady Candling is a collector of Siamese cats and it's her prize cat Dark Queen that goes missing - twice. (Joseph van Abbe,born 1898 in Amsterdam, Holland,worked as J Abbey.) Joseph Abbey lived in England from the age of three.Brother of Salomon Van Abbe.Joseph Abbey worked,mainly in black and white,for newspapers,magazines, children's books and annuals.His most successful subjects were animals,birds and plants.He was editor of Chums' during the 1930s and exhibited flower paintings at several London galleries, including the Royal Academy.He illustrated two other Blyton titles from this series - the first book of the series 'The Mystery of the Burnt Cottage' (1943) and 'The Mystery of the Hidden House' the 6th.
