A very good copy in contemporary 1/2 pale tan calf gilt, raised bands to spine separating richly gilt compartments, rubbed, marbled boards, with the following defects: TWO PLATES (P.189 and 255) LACKING; two plates hinged in on inner blank margins using sellotape; p. 271 with small hole lacking few letters of text, the hole covered with clear sellotape. Some scattered foxing to text, else a clean tight example of the rare first edition of this classic exploration narrative.
