Wood-engraved frontispiece, illustrated series title-page, and four other plates within. 388 pp., preceded by one leaf with publisher's ads on verso. Octavo, 6 3/4" x 4 3/8", green cloth with border and central diamond stamped in blind on boards, title, series title, and vignette illustration within a rustic frame in gilt on spine. Contemporary ink ownership (Frank Gary Montpelier, Vermont) laid down on front pastedown. Laid in is a small publisher's handbill, 5 3/16" x 3 1/4", advertising "Sink or Swim." Binding is askew; and there is some offset at the inner margin on pp. 138- 9. Otherwise the book is clea and crisp, sound, and just about in near- fine condition. Scarce.
