ALFRED MENDIZABAL : The Martyrdom of Spain. Origins of A Civil War. With a preface by Jacquez Maritain

Geoffrey Bles, The Century Press, London, 1938

The first English edition, translated from the Spanish by Charles Hope Lumley. 8vo. viii, 277pp. Red cloth lettered in black at the spine. One corner knocked, the spine ends a little rubbed and with a single small area of discolouration to the cloth at the base of the upper board. Former owner name and date neatly inked to the head of the front free endpaper, and a Gillis College Library inkstamp to the half-title verso, but no further indications of institutional ownership. A very bright copy in the uncommon and certainly striking dust wrapper which reproduces a Goya etching; the wrapper non-price-clipped but rubbed at the spine panel ends and at one corner tip, with some fading to the publisher's red spine panel colour, a single short tear and a narrow vertical strip of surface abrasion. A scholarly survey of Spanish politics from 1923 to 1936.. Book. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: Good
