Illustrated "with nearly four hundred illustrations on steel and wood", of which 13 are full page engravings, one of which is colored, while the rest are small wood-engraved spot illustrations sprinkled throughout the text, plus two additional full-page engraved portraits of James Gilray, the caricaturist, and of William Pitt, Earl of Chatham. [iii]-xiiii, [1], 639 pp. Octavo, 24 x 18 cm, bound in three- quarter red morocco with matching red cloth sides, marbled endpapers. Binding shows a bit of edgewear and has darkened on spine. Half-title lacking. The frontispiece and title-page are foxed, light offset from full-page plates to facing text pages, else clean and in very good condition overall.
