Wright, Orville and Wilbur Wright : The Wright Brothers' Aeroplane

The Century Company, NY, 1908

8vo. 10pp extract, printed in double columns, illustrated after photographs supplied by the authors, salvaged from a damaged issue of Century Magazine, Volume 76, No. 5, September, 1908. From the editor, "The article which follows is the first popular account of their experiments prepared by the inventors. Their accounts heretofore have been brief statements of bare accomplishments, without explanation of the manner in which results were attained. The article will be found of special interest in view of the fact that they have contracted to deliver to the United States Government a complete machine, the trials of which are expected to take place about the time of the appearance of this number of The Century." Photographs include portraits of the authors, a gliding flight from Kill Devil Hill, near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, October 21, 1903, a scene of the start of the first flight of October 5, 1905, a scene of the first flight of the Wright Brothers' first motor machine, at Kill Devil Hill, December 17, 1903, a scene of the flight at Simms Station, near Dayton, Ohio, November 9, 1904, a three-quarter view of the flight at Simms Station, November 16, 1904, a side view showing the machine traveling to the right with double horizontal rudder in front, and front and rear views of the flight of October 4, 1905. Housed in protective mylar report cover. An exceptional piece of aviation history. Very scarce.. Book. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Soft cover
