Billy Wright,at twenty-four years of age, was the youngest footballer ever to lead England's international football team (then 1950).Since he gained the England side, five years ago (1945), Wright has never been absent from it and is well on the way towards establishing a new record for international caps. This book tells of Wright's climb to the top of the ladder,of the fourteen-year-old boy who was turned down and only given a second chance because the trainer thought him a well-behaved and promising lad! In its chapters Wright takes readers behind the present-day soccer scenes, introduces all the great players, tells interesting stories of them, and reveals hitherto unpublished anecdotes of great internationals played not only in Britain, but Portugal, Switzerland,Italy,France,Holland,Belgium, Sweden,Norway,Finland and Denmark.A qualified coach,Wright also points out why certain players have become famous, and reveals their strong and weak points. He describes how youngsters can emulate the internationals of today. Billy Wright b. 1924 d.1994.His career spent at Wolves [Wolverhampton Wanderers] from 1938-1959 and England captain (1948- 59). The first man to win over 100 international caps for England and he also holds the record for the longest unbroken run in competitive international football.Of the 100 plus internationals,he had captained 90 of them, including three FIFA World Cup qualifiers - 1950,'54 and '58. An early autobiography published after he had become the youngest-ever England captain.A wonderful addition to any Wolves and England fan and collector of football memorobilia.
