It is only the described faults that prevents a slightly higher overall grading.Despite them,it is still an acceptable example for its overall appearnace and lack of major imperfections,and as a debut novel too. A UK author (1914-1987),who used his mother's pseudonym not her legal surname (Fairfield),son of H G Wells and Rebecca West.His parents never married,as Wells was already married to Amy Catherine Robbins,and remained so until after his intimate relationship with West ended (although they remained friends until his death in 1946). A critically lauded author,he wrote novels, essays,and nonfiction works,and reviewed books for The New Yorker from the 1950s until the late 1970s.Author's debut novel,(US title The Vintage, Boston,Mass.: Houghton Mifflin,1950) won the Houghton Mifflin Award,and is an Afterlife fantasy which describes a Suicide's quest through space and time for the meaning of life.
