Original fine-press ephemera; black and orange text printed on front of one leaf of paper. No date, circa 1972. 7 1/4" x 10." One page, complete. Paper and text are very clean and intact except for some light to moderate age toning and slight wrinkling throughout. A Very Good copy. Author Henry Van Dyke writes about the tumultuous state of the current world and the remedy for it. Excerpt from Van Dyke's quotation: "There is today such a thing as taking ourselves and the world too seriously, or at any rate too anxiously. Half of the secular unrest and dismal, profane sadness of our modern society comes from the vain idea that every man is bound to be a critic of life ...." A few pencil inscriptions on back, in small, fine handwriting: "Christmas/[19]72; by Henry Van Dyke; Printed by Lewis and Dorothy [Allen]." Lewis and Dorothy were a husband-and-wife duo who founded the Allen Press, also known as the L-D Allen Press, which was based in San Francisco. Lewis and Dorothy took inspiration from other noted printers including the Grabhorns, Aldus Manutius, William Morris, and John Henry Nash for their printing practice.. Ephemera.
