One page (8 1/4 x 11 inch) typed letter on "Lewis G. Tewksbury, Banker" stationary. Lewis G. Tewksbury (b.1864) is most remembered as being an owner of the famous harness racing horse "John R. Gentry" (1889-1920). He had bought the horse at auction in 1896 for $19,900 and sold him the next year to E.H.Harriman. Tewksbury was a man with a vague past and questionable business practices. He lived well off his brokerage business for a short while, doing much entertaining, and buying expensive art. In 1897 he went bankrupt. In this letter to a client, he advises "scalp the wheat market, buying on the declines and selling on the bulges". Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Fine.
