Longman, Brown, green and Longmans. First edition set. 1849 - 1850. In Six Volumes. Uniformly bound in very attractive dark tan calf gilt. Contrasting leather lettering pieces, raised bands, gilt decorations to compartments of spine. Marbled boards and edges. Illustrated with portrait frontispiece and a beautiful landscape engraving, mostly of the Lake District, to each volume, most with tissue guards. Some of the marbled boards sl. rubbed, some browning to prelims otherwise a remarkably clean, fresh and sound set. Southey is possibly the least known now of the Lake Poets but is still remembered for his work. He was Poet Laureat from 1813 until his death in 1843.
