1906, 1911. Complete set of three hardcovers of instructional human anatomy, translated from German to English by Dr. W. Hersey Thomas. Author: Dr. Johannes Sobotta, with editing and additions by J. Playfair McMurrich, PhD. According to the author, this is the first anatomical atlas in which multicolor lithography has been used. The set is for the student or the practitioner, rather than an atlas for the finished anatomist. Each comprehensive volume features numerous illustrations, mostly in color. Vol. 1 (1906): Bones, Ligaments, Joints, and Muscles. Vol. II (1911): The Viscera, Including the Heart. Vol. III (1911): Vascular System, Lymphatic System, Nervous System and Sense Organs. Condition: Bindings worn, age darken, soiled and stained; short tears to cloth; several corners bumped. Vol. I cracked at hinges. Previous owner's name stamped at various places, with card pasted on endpapers of owner's name/address. Internally: In general, page tears, some detached and laid in, and some signatures loosen. Overall, the set has been well-used by students and doctors, but all pages and illustrations seem to be intact/complete. Condition: Fair to Poor. A very scarce, complete set of hardcovers.
