8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. On offer a tremendously interesting and unique handwritten Geology notebook from a class taken at the City College of New York, done sometime in the 1940s. This book includes dozens of original illustrations, often in color, and tons of photographs of different geological phenomena around NYC. This is an absolutely fabulous handwritten student journal from 5 New York City area Geology trips taken by the student. There are included over 120 pages packed with mostly hand drawn diagrams, and dozens of original drawings, many hand colored. These drawings include cross-sections of New York and New Jersey, drawings of the “Xenolith of Manhattan schist within an intrusion of quartz,” a “Diagram showing relation of topography to structure along the Harlem River,” a “cross section along 170th street,” diagrams explaining the photographs on the opposite page and many more. In terms of the actual information present, there are over a hundreds pages containing detailed information (transcribed in both pen and pencil) pertaining to Geology experiments conducted at Speedway, Inwood Hill, Cross Town, Bronx Park and the Palisades, all located in the New York City Area. Further, this amazing manuscript student journal is complete with 48 amazing original photographs of historic NYC sites including Manhattan's oldest tree, bridges, train tracks, the Geology class themselves and much more, all of which include small descriptions written underneath. 13 come housed in an envelope in the back of the book and the rest are affixed throughout. The very first page contains a color index and table of contents and the front inner board reads "S. Curchack, 1255 Boynton Ave., Sedt 2 Lab. Outdoors" along with a stamp that reads: "Geology Department, Accredited City College". The book contains a total of 122 hand numbered pages. It is overall in very good overall condition. The book is slightly warped, but the binding and everything else is still very good. Moderate exterior wear. The binding is strong and tight and all page groupings are secured firmly. The pages themselves are still in good condition throughout. The handwriting is legible and readable in black ink that is still sharp and mostly unfaded. The book measures 8" x 5" inches.
