Two volumes (complete). Both half bound in red morocco. The boards are worn and scuffed and marked all about. Volume 2 has had the misfortune to have the back cover bottom corner cut away. Nonetheless the books have a clubbable placidity and character. The marbled boards are sure and firm. The spines are agreeable - their titling and 'decoration' are handsome. The contents of both volumes have foxing here and there. The maps and diagrams are all present and are sound and sure. The pages are confident, clear, certain, occasionally marked, dignified and diligent. A decent set worthy of a home (the Royal Library at Windsor has only the second edition). fk.
