Romberg, Sigmund : Two Typed Letters Signed to Ann Ronell. Sigmund Romberg

Two typed letters: dated 14 October 1942 (8 1/2 x 11 inch) with 'Song Writers Protective Association' letterhead - he was President of the organization; dated 16 June 1950 (7 1/4 x 10 3/4 inch) with Romberg's letterhead. Sigmund Romberg (1887-1951) was a Hungarian born composer who came to America in 1909. He enjoyed great success as a composer of Broadway shows starting in the 1920s and had over fifty such productions to his credit, including ROSALIE (1928), which he co-wrote with George Gershwin & P.G. Wodehouse. He also worked on films and conducted orchestra's for radio and recording his own music. Ann Ronell (1906-1993) to who both these letters were addressed, was an American composer and lyricist. She is a co-writer of the Disney cartoon song "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" (1933) and the American jazz standard "Willow Weep For Me" (1932). She married the producer Lester Cowan (1907-1990) in 1935. In the first letter, Romberg writes Ronell and offers consolation over, apparently, some bad reviews her Broadway show (Count Me In?) has received "I'm very happy that you're keeping your chin up. You see, we who are more experienced in the theatre are so used to the critics, that we just shake it off like a duck shakes off water." In the second letter Romberg tells Ronell that he is "Busily looking around for a suitable subject for a show" and asks "Have you found anything that is worthwhile mentioning?" He goes on that if she is coming to California," I would love to get together and have further talks with you about this." Fine clean copies.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Fine.
