Both large maps present. Contemporary brown 3/4 leather binding with gray, marbled, paper-covered boards. Gilt lettering on spine. Gilt decorative lines bordering the leather on front and back. 9" x 10 1/2." 364 pages, complete. Appendix and Notes to the Appendix in back. Two black-and-white folding maps, complete. One map accompanies the "Historical Disquisition"; the other accompanies the Appendix. Twelve additional pages in back comprising an eleven-page Index and one page of Errata. Two former owners' signatures in black ink dated 1832 and 1852 on front free endpaper. Pages and covers are clean and intact overall. Pages have light to moderate foxing; some pages are virtually spotless while others have more noticeable foxing. Offsetting from maps on facing pages. Covers have some corner and edge wear and rubbing to front and back. Some wear to the joints; joints are still strong and holding. Book is protected in mylar, but two pieces of tape have been adhered; a small portion of each piece is touching the book's bottom edge. A Very Good copy. A Western perspective of Europe's interaction with India with emphasis on times of antiquity. There are three Sections with the following titles: "Intercourse with India, from the earliest Times, until the Conquest of Egypt by the Romans," "Intercourse with India, from the Establishment of the Roman Dominion in Egypt, to the Conquest of that Kingdom by the Mahomedans," and "Intercourse with India, from the Conquest of Egypt by the Mahomedans, to the Discovery of the Passage by the Cape of Good Hope, and the Establishment of the Portuguese Dominion in the East.".
