From “Vues de Londres” by Charles Francois Riffardeau, Duc de Riviere. An interesting technical feature of these views is the presence of tiny pinholes, used acive correct register in overlaying the separate tints. These printer’s marks are usually to be found at the corners of the print but are here cleverly concealed in appropriate parts of the picture - on the bowsprit of a ship, at the hub of a wheel, the bullseye of a lantern or pierced through a child’s balloon. The views themsleves are lively and pleasing, with bustling crowds in the foreground of each.
