Former ownership signature written in blue ink on dedication page: "Sarah E. St[...]." Gilt lettering and decoration on spine. Pages and covers are very clean and intact overall. Faint spots and rubbing on the front covers. Some of the pages have slight foxing. A satirical and descriptive look at rural life in the U.S. during the nineteenth century. H. H. Riley (1813-1888) was an American author and part of the Knickerbocker group of writers. The book follows a series of articles he wrote called "The Puddleford Papers, or Humors of the West."
