Reitz writes to inform Engelenburg that the Drstdy at Grahamstown was built by Piet Retief and should be preserved. He then discusses aspects of historical monuments and heritage, refering to chronic shortage of funds for this. Frans Vredenrijk Engelenburg (Arnhem, Nederland, 17 March 1863 - Pretoria, , 21 August 1938) was the editor of Die Volkstem and founding member of the Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns. He played an important role in preservation of historic buildings (notably the Koopman de Wet house).
