Thomas Wemyss Reid (1842-1905) was an English newspaper editor, novelist, and biographer. Reid worked with a number of newspapers over the years. His career in journalism began when he became the chief reporter of the Newcastle Journal at the age of 19. Soon after, he became the editor of the Preston Guardian. In 1867, he was appointed as the London correspondent for the Leeds Mercury and became its editor three years later. Reid helped reform the Leeds Mercury so its leaders were among the first, if not the first, to reflect the latest news before rival publications. In this brief letter, Reid addresses "Mr. Radford" and writes supportively of a particular collection of poetry. The letter reads, in part, "I see no reason whatever why Mr. Matthews should not publish Mr. W. Wilde's poems ....". Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
