Alai (35) explains that this map is based on Grueninger's Strasbourg Ptolemaic atlas of 1525, where the title of the map was "omitted, but a swimming duck on the Caspian Sea added". The text on the verso was edited by Michael Villanova (also called Michael Servetus), who was burnt alive for heresy in 1553, "and it is reported that on Calvin's order many copies of this edition, which were used as evidence against him, were set fire to at the same time." The verso-right page is marked with a "19", as found in Treschel's Lyon edition. "Verso-left contains descriptions and woodcut ornaments which are similar to the Strasbourg edition of 1522, and verso-right, unlike the Strasbourg editions, is equally decorative.", Alai E.16 / PTOL 7c (pp. 35).
