Instituut Vir Ontwikkelingstudies Randse Afrikaanse Universiteit, Johannesburg, 1977

(?) ALL PUBLISHED. A fine copy in the original dark red cloth. 913pp duplicated typescript. A scarce Apartheid period document, Gazankulu was a bantustan in South Africa, intended by the apartheid government to be a semi-independent homeland for the Shangaan Tsonga people. It was located in both the Northern Transvaal, now Limpopo province and Eastern Transvaal, now Mpumalanga province. It was given self-rule in 1969, with its capital at Giyani. Gazankulu homeland covered the land from Elim Hospital, which is 15 Km from Makhado town, as well as some areas around Levubu, the village of Valdezia and goes on to end at the small town of Hazyview in Mpumalanga. The total length of Gazankulu was 310 Km long. Gazankulu share borders with other black homelands, which are, Venda, Lebowa and Kangwane. This report was commissioned by the Apartheid government's Department of Bantu Administration and Development, and therefore charts progress towards realising the Apartheid concept of independent Bantustans.. The only copy we have seen in the past 35 years.
