Original handbill printed in white and purple ink on white and purple paper. Full-page purple and white photographic illustration of Harold Bauer on front with inset text. 6 1/2" x 8 3/4." One leaf printed on front. Handbill is very clean and intact except for moderate age toning, some surface chipping at top edge on back, and a few wrinkles and creases toward edges and corners. A Very Good copy. This is a handbill announcing a piano concert performance by Harold Bauer at Jordan Hall in Boston on November 2, 1929 at 3 p.m. The concert management on the program is stated as the Metropolitan Musical Bureau of New York. The concert is presented by Anita Davis-Chase. The handbill lists songs for the program which are Bach's "Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue," Beethoven's "Sonata, Op. III in C minor," Schumann's "Sonata, Op. II in F sharp," and Debussy's "Children's Corner." Harold Bauer (1873-1951) was an English-American pianist and music instructor of German, English, and Jewish descent. Bauer studied piano under Ignacy Jan Paderewski. Bauer made his debut in the United States in 1900 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He later moved to the U.S. around 1908 and became involved in many musical enterprises. He was one of the founders of the Beethoven Association and also taught at several schools and universities including the Manhattan School of Music, the University of Miami, and the Hartt School at the University of Hartford..
