Macleod, George H. B : Notes on the Surgery of the War in Crimea, with remarks on the treatment of gunshot wounds

London: John Churchill, 1858., 1858

First printing. 8vo. Frontispiece map. xii, 439 pp. Illustrated with tables. Original brown cloth binding. Apparently the first publication of the surgical results of the Crimean War, apart from Macleods own reports in the Edinburgh Med. J. written from camp. Very interesting book on military medicine. Topics include use of chloroform, gunshot wounds of joints, compound fractures of extremities, nursing, camp hygiene, amputation, etc. The Crimean War (1853-1856) was in some ways a medical & technological rehearsal for the US Civil War. Inscription on title page: "Sig. Ghirini from his grateful patient Wm Kitching 1859." Some light spinal wear/sunning else a tight very good plus book. Uncommon thus.. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Hardcover
