W. Mathers, including the title and 27 plates mounted on publisher’s heavy paper. He presents Inuit families and children, as well as buildings, natural landmarks, and Native methods of travel.

Mathers's path follows Native trade routes through what are now the Northwest Territories and Alberta: from Fort McPherson near the Arctic Ocean, to Fort Good Hope on the Mackenzie River, to Fort Resolution on Great Slave Lake, to Fort Smith on the Slave River at the boundary between the present-day Northwest Territories and Alberta, to Fort Chipewyan on Lake Athabasca in Alberta, and finishes along the 87-mile rapids between Fort McMurray and Grand Rapids on the Athabasca River.
