FIne folding Map. True first edition. No listing of "New York and Brooklyn Bridge Opened Thursday, May 24, 1883", which was added in later editions. Rather, in the true first edition, there is a listing for the "East River Bridge" (the later named Brooklyn Bridge), which was then currently under construction. Booklet, black and white illustrations, Fine hand colored folding map approximately 107 x 5 1/2 inches, unpaginated (approximately 32pp including title page), 6 x 4 7/8 inches, pictorial stiff card wrappers with cloth spine (softbound). Light toning and rubbing to cover edges, two short tears to upper margin of back cover, abraded area over text on title page. Map is in fine condition. A fascinating guide book to the Hudson River and adjacent areas with attractive black and white wood engravings of scenic spots in the area on the verso of most of the text pages, plus a black and white map of the New York West Shore and Buffalo Railway Connections. The full color folding map is a wonderful compendium of information of the area with everything from homeowners' names, information on Indian names, topography to commercial buildings. Ads on inside front and rear covers. Covers toned. On rear cover is written, "Map used by Joseph Smyser in one of his trips."
