Gray paper wrappers with staple binding. Document on white paper. Datelined November 9 ,1953 at Hillyard Public School. 9" x 12." Seven pages, complete. One page with purple-and-white illustrations, complete. Pages and covers are very clean and intact except for slight wrinkling and offsetting to the covers. A Very Good copy. This document appears to be an outline of an address given by Mr. Frank Lilly (Tishamongo), a Cherokee and Chickasaw man. Based on the dateline and other information at the top of a couple of the pages, Lilly likely gave the address to Mrs. Palmer's 2nd grade class at Hillyard Public School November 9, 1953. This may be the Hillyard Public School in Spokane, Washington. An introduction by Mrs. Palmer is precedes the address. Following Mrs. Palmer's introduction is a printout of Indigenous symbols and an excerpt from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's Song of Hiawatha. The rest of the document is Lilly's address. Lilly talks about his upbringing as a child and the different traditions and aspects of Indigenous life. For example, he talks about his personal horse, the use of traditional herbal medicines, how Indigenous Peoples respect nature and work in tandem with it, and his interactions with family members and relatives. Also included is his discussion about the plight of Indigenous Peoples that has persisted since the colonization of the United States. He refers to how, despite this, many Indigenous Peoples have served as servicemembers and that the foundation of the United States Constitution and government were modeled after the Iroquois Confederacy..
