Printed and holograph copyright notice on beige paper with printed text, holograph signatures, and handwritten signatures and text. 8 1/2" x 11." One page, complete. Letter is folded into thirds horizontally. There is slight splitting along the left side of the fold lines but letter is otherwise very clean and intact. In the lower-right corner is a handwritten ink signature of the Register of Copyrights, Thorvald Solberg (1852-1949), who was instrumental in establishing the landmark Copyright Act of 1909. Also included are two holograph signatures of Herbert Putnam (1861-1955), the eighth and longest-serving Librarian of Congress who was in office from 1899-1939. At the bottom is an embossed Librarian of Congress seal, and there are three handwritten ink initials in the lower-left corner. Parts of the main text are handwritten in black ink. This letter is a copyright notice for 1899 edition of the book title, Two Gentleman in Touraine, by Richard Sudbury, which was submitted by Herbert S. Stone and Company (Chicago and New York).. Book.
