S.A.B.4:53-4 ascribes the authorship to John S. Roberts. Numerous editions and versions of this book were published in a variety of bindings, some with tinted plates and others with chromolithographic plates. It seems they were issued at different prices according to the style of the binding and the colouring of the plates. The most elaborate has brass and edges and clasps and is richly decorated in gilt and is thus sometimes referred to as 'The Livingstone Bible'. The present copy has a 'History of South and Central Africa' bound at the end which ends abruptly at page 128.
