He was ordained and sent out by the Church Missionary Society to pioneer the newly opened work in the Sudan. Later he labored among the sugar planters of Hawaii, and afterwards served as a missionary in India. He returned to England where he wrote a book about Opium traffic and in 1912 traveled to Canada where he stayed until his death in 1941.
