Published on the occasion of the landmark retrospective exhibition of the same name held at the Saint Louis Art Museum from September 28, 1993 to January 2, 1994. Presents Bob Kolbrener's "Photographs: Twenty-Five Years In The American West". Poetic, lyrical, and stunningly beautiful landscapes in the Classical tradition of Ansel Adams, by his most celebrated contemporary disciple. Adams' influence is inescapable (after all, Michael Kenna could not escape it, either). But every Kolbrener image has a brilliant interpretive twist: "They represent what happens to the grand tradition of landscape photography in the late 20th century: The grandeur of Nature is still there, but it has had to accommodate an increasing human presence. The American West, once the site of heroic explorations by lone dreamers, has since become the persistent destination of tourists and spoilers" (James D. Burke). Kolbrener has had two lifelong artistic goals: To photograph many of the same pristine landscapes, and many more new vistas, in all their Romantic glory and majesty; and to document the encroachment of human intervention, as the other Adams, Robert, did. Kolbrener is not a pessimistic nag, and in fact, he truly believes that Nature will prevail in the end. In the process, Kolbrener has gained a fervent following among environmentalists, who collect his work, and hold him in the highest esteem. His imagery speaks eloquently for itself. An absolute "must-have" title for Bob Kolbrener collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed, dated, and inscribed in black ink-pen on the title page by the photographer: "For Paul Berlanga, You are nicer than we deserve! Best always, Bob Kolbrener 9/03". The recipient is the Chicago-based photography expert and important artist/painter, who is also a committed environmental activist. This comes with pristine copies of "Kolbrener's Yosemite" and "Bob Kolbrener Landscapes". This title is a late-modern photography classic. As far as we know, this is the only set available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, pristine beauties. We have not seen a more beautiful collection of Kolbrener's oeuvre. A rare set thus. Lavishly illustrated with tritone plates. One of the most brilliant American photogaphers of our time. A fine set. . ISBN 0891780386.
