Kingsley, Henry : Austin Elliot

Macmilland and Co., London and Cambridge, 1865

409 pages (complete). Henry Kingsley was the restless brother of Charles Kingsley, a swagman and a war correspondent. His devotion to piety, drinking and smoking, vigorous exercise leading to undeniable masculinity as an ajoint to the strength of Christian faith was matched by his energetic literary endeavours (when he got around to it). This book, his third, the story of the eponymous lead character in the aftermath of a duel, has been hailed as leading to most stringent anti-duelling laws. This third edition is resolute. The blue covers are scuffed, rubbed, marked and worn. They are sure and secure. Within, the guttering about the frontis and end papers are cracked but the security of the book is unaffected. The first free page is uncut. The contents have evidence of contented readership but are still clean, clear and competent. fk. Book Condition: Used: Acceptable
