Original black-and-white photograph showing an Allied ammunition depot on the Macedonian Front during World War I. Numerous artillery shells are stacked and lined up in rows in the foreground and middleground. Soldiers, military officers, and military trucks are visible in the middleground and background. Mountains are also faintly visible in the background. No date, circa 1918. 8 1/2" x 6 1/2." Photo is very clean and intact except for age toning, slight rippling, slight surface wear on front, and a few spots of surface tearing on back (appears to have been previously mounted). A Very Good copy. This photograph shows an outdoor ammunition depot belonging to Allied forces on the Macedonian or Salonica Front during World War I. The Allied forces comprised France, Serbia, Greece, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Russia. The Central Powers were Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire. The abundance of munitions such as the ones shown in the photo helped ensure victory for the Franco-Serbian army and other Allied forces on the Macedonian Front. There is a stamp in black ink on back showing this photo was copyrighted by the International Film Service, Inc. on 238 William Street, New York.
