IAN FLEMING : contributes a nine-page article 'Foreign News' - his FIRST BOOKFORM APPEARANCE - to The Kemsley Manual of Journalism

Cassell, London, 1950

First Edition (first printing). 4to. 424pp + xlvi advertisements. Brown cloth. Some considerable fading to the backstrip lettering. A slightly shaken copy, boards lifting a fraction and with a split to the rear inner hinge although the integrity of the binding is not compromised. Several light superficial creases to the front free endpaper, else a lovely bright copy internally. Lacking the dust wrapper. Contemporary former owner details neatly inked to the front and rear pastedowns. A detailed guide to the entire range of newspaper work and the careers it offers. Upon his demobilisation in May 1945, Fleming became the Foreign Manager in the Kemsley newspaper group, owner of 'The Sunday Times', and oversaw the paper's worldwide network of correspondents. This article on foreign news is drawn partly from his 1930s experiences as sub-editor and journalist for Reuters (where he spent time in Moscow covering the Stalinist show trail of six British engineers) and constitutes his first appearance in book-form, preceding the publication of 'Casino Royale' by three years. "[A foreign correspondent] must know something about protocol and yet enjoy having a drink with the meanest spy or the most wastrelly spiv.". Book. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: No Jacket
