His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh's Study Conference on the Human Problems of Industrial Communities within the Commonwealth and Empire 9 - 27 July 1956 - Two Volumes

Oxford University Press, London, 1957

Two volumes (complete). Volume 1: Report and Proceedings 1956 ; Volume II: Background Papers appendixes and index. The study conference began as an experiment after a visit the Duke of Edinburgh paid a visit to developing industrial towns in northern Canada. Since his earliest days, after leaving the Royal Navy, the Duke used his position to bring together people from all walks of life and opinion to discuss, principally, the human impact by mere presence, or by science or by faith and belief, on the world and the planet (a practice carried on with as much vigour by the current Prince of Wales). This conference was such a success that there were subsequent conferences around the Commonwealth. The programme was quickly organised and structured. It is now known as the Commonwealth Study Conference and is supported with considerable attention by the Princess Royal. These papers, from the initial conference, show how someone in the position of the Duke (such as the current Crown Princess of Norway and the Queen of the Netherlands) are able to organise meetings of peoples to considerable affect and worth. These volumes are benign and calm. The covers have storage and shelving marks and wear. They are sound and sturdy. The frontispages have previous owner signatures. The contents are fresh, placid, clean, clear, certain, well-ordered and notable. fk. Book Condition: Fair. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: No Jacket
