A later impression of this new edition of Hawker's collected prose sketches (first published by Lane in 1903). 8vo. xv, 327pp. Deeply embossed cloth, designed to resemble old carved oak in the churches of Morwenstow and Wellcombe, lettered in gold at the spine. Fore- and bottom edges untrimmed. The title page printed in black and red. With a portrait frontispiece and facsimile signature, and eighteen plates of illustrations, one of which is detached and laid-in, and a second somewhat tender. A strip of quite light partial toning to the free endpapers, and a neat former owner name and several numerals to the head of the front free endpaper. Some spotting to a dozen or so preliminary leaves, and to occasional leaf margins. A good bright copy in the original lettered dust wrapper, a little toned at the spine panel, with several tiny fractions of edge-loss. Fifteen essays by Robert Stephen Hawker, followed by nearly 100 pages of notes by Rev. Prebendary Roger Granville, Rev. W.Waddon Martyn, R.Pearse Chope and Charles E.Byles, issued here as a uniform companion volume to Lane's reissue of Hawkers 'Cornish Ballads and Other Poems' (1904).. Book. Book Condition: Good.
