Included is a single leaf from the Open Letters section, November issue, which reprints a letter to the editor from a reader, Edward J. Shriver, who challenges the overall tone of the novel regarding its depiction of trade unions -- which is decidedly unfavorable --, and a rebuttal from the author in which he strongly re-states his position, and an additional 3-pages from the Open Letters section in the Century issue of March, 1884, in which the author addresses various negative critical comments received specific to the novel.
