Illustrated and written by the often outrageous satirist, French-nationalist and mocker-of-the-Germans Hansi. Waltz aka Hansi was an active opponent of the annexation of Alsace by the Germans. This book is of an ideal vision of Alsace of another age. He celebrates the songs, the costumes, festivals and French culture of his Alsatian homeland. His cute, charming illustrations in crayon and watercolour are much sought after by collectors. This copy of "Mon Village' has been much owned, read and enjoyed. Landscape format. Dedicated to the 'little children of France'. The covers are much worn and marked. However, the main illustrations are clear and cweet. The decorations and printing are fresh. The binding is shakey but secure and intact. The papertrims are marked in red. The pages are tanned from age but are intact and firm to the spine. The guttering at page 1 is loose but the security of the book is unaffected. The illustrations are fresh, clean, clear and joyful. Any German included in the picture is easily spotted! A tribute song to the Alsatian childhood the pages are amiable, energetic, clear, sure, comfortable, comforting and funny. There is lots to look at and learn.
