One of the lost classics of World War One which paints a vile portrait of what really happens in war and is one of the darkest, bleakest and most horrific stories of trench warfare I have read. Slim 8vo. Original maroon buckram gilt, slightly rubbed to boards, two small star stickers to tail of spine. Pages browned. Contains loose newspaper reviews of Hanley's works. A very clean and sound copy of one of the scarcest items of fiction based on a first hand experience of WWI.
