Original publisher's hand-colored engraved map of Turkey in Europe and Hungary. A beautiful map featuring pink and green coloring along the borders of the countries and political regions. "Turkey in Europe" was a name given to the southeastern region of Europe that was overseen by the Ottoman Empire. In addition to Hungary, the following regions and countries are shown: Moldavia (Moldova), Wallachia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, Dalmatia, Herzegovina, Albania, Rumelia, and Morea. Major cities are shown along with natural geographic features such as rivers, bays, and seas. Map with margins measures 8 1/4" x 10 5/8"; actual map area measures 7 1/2" x 9 3/4." Map is very clean and intact except for slight off-setting and a very small chip over the "Gulf of Venice." Title and scale of distance in English Miles printed in lower-left corner. Lines of latitude and longitude also included. Underneath the map is the following information: "London; Published by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme & Brown, Paternoster Row, 1822." and "Engraved by Sidy. Hall, Bury Strt. Bloomsby." "XIV" printed in lower-right corner. Sidney Hall (1788-1831) was an English map publisher and engraver. He made a name for himself as a reputable engraver in the mapmaking industry. Upon Hall's passing in 1931, his wife, Selina Price Hall (1782-1853), who was a Welsh scientist and fellow map engraver, took over his business and signed her maps under the name, "S. Hall.". Map.
