Original publisher's hand-colored engraved map of South America. A beautiful map featuring green and pink coloring along the border of the continent. Major cities are shown. Natural geographic features such as rivers, bays, and the North and South Atlantic Oceans are also included. Map with margins measures 8 1/4" x 10 1/2"; actual map area measures 7 1/2" x 9 3/4." Map is very clean and intact except for very slight chipping in the lower-left corner and at the right edge of the horizontal centerline fold. Title and scale of distance in English Miles printed in lower-right corner. Lines of latitude and longitude also included. Underneath the map is the following information: "London; Published by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme & Brown, Paternoster Row, 1822." "XX" printed in lower-right corner as well as "Sidy. Hall del et sculp." Sidney Hall (1788-1831) was an English map publisher and engraver. He made a name for himself as a reputable engraver in the mapmaking industry. Upon Hall's passing in 1931, his wife, Selina Price Hall (1782-1853), who was a Welsh scientist and fellow map engraver, took over his business and signed her maps under the name, "S. Hall.". Map.
