Original publisher's hand-colored engraved map of Scotland that shows its counties and regions. A beautiful map featuring green, pink, yellow, orange, and blue coloring along the county or regional borders. Inset map of the Shetland Isles in upper-left corner. Major cities are shown along with natural geographic features such as rivers, firths (estuaries), the North Channel, the Minch (strait), and the North Sea. Map with margins measures 8 1/4" x 10 1/2"; actual map area measures 7 1/2" x 9 3/4." There is slight off-setting, a staple mark in left margin, and some splitting along the horizontal center fold line, but map is otherwise very clean and intact. Title and scale of distance in English Miles printed in lower-left corner. "V" printed in lower-right corner. Lines of latitude and longitude also included. Underneath the map is the following information: "London; Published by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme & Brown, Paternoster Row, 1822." and "Engraved by Sidy. Hall, Bury Strt. Bloomsby." Sidney Hall (1788-1831) was an English map publisher and engraver. He made a name for himself as a reputable engraver in the mapmaking industry. Upon Hall's passing in 1931, his wife, Selina Price Hall (1782-1853), who was a Welsh scientist and fellow map engraver, took over his business and signed her maps under the name, "S. Hall.". Map.
