Original publisher's hand-colored engraved map of Hindoostan (India) and Ceylon (modern-day Sri Lanka). A beautiful map that features pink coloring around the border of India and Sri Lanka. This map shows major cities and natural geographic features such as deserts, mountains, rivers, bays, and islands. The Himalayas, Bay of Bengal, Andaman Islands, and Laccadive Islands are included. Other South and Southeast Asian political regions and countries are shown such as Tibet and Nepal and modern-day Bhutan and Myanmar. Map with margins measures 8" x 10 1/2"; actual map area measures 7 1/2" x 9 5/8." Map is very clean and intact except for some off-setting. Title and scale of distance in English Miles printed in upper-right corner. Lines of latitude and longitude also included. Beneath the map is the following information: "London. Published by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme & Brown, Paternoster Row 1822." "XVI" printed in lower-right corner as well as "Sidy. Hall del et sculp." Sidney Hall (1788-1831) was an English map publisher and engraver. He made a name for himself as a reputable engraver in the mapmaking industry. Upon Hall's passing in 1931, his wife, Selina Price Hall (1782-1853), who was a Welsh scientist and fellow map engraver, took over his business and signed her maps under the name, "S. Hall.". Map.
