Girolamo Ruscelli’s work in ‘Le Imprese’ is a rare comprehensive work on the study of the sciences and occult. It details a wide variety of esoteric knowledge, including the study of nature and science in relation to religion. There are symbolic references to mythology and knighthood to reinforce the occult theme. Even though Ruscellli is best known for his revision of Ptolemy’s Geographica, his other work is famously published under various pseudonyms on the secrets of scientific knowledge, including the remedies for various diseases, which sparked new investigations on the hermetic subject from the 17th century onwards.
